Selecting the Right Polymer: Nitrile, EPDM, Neoprene, or Silicone
Comprehensive comparison of NBR, EPDM, Neoprene, and Silicone elastomers to help factory managers select the ideal roller coating.

Comparing Common Industrial Roller Elastomers

Choosing the correct rubber formulation is critical to preventing premature roll swelling, degradation, or hardening:

  • Nitrile (NBR): Excellent resistance to petroleum oils, greases, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and inks. Ideal for printing and conveyor drives.
  • EPDM: Superior resistance to polar solvents (ketones, alcohols, esters), ozone, and steam up to 150°C. Popular for plastic film converting.
  • Neoprene (CR): Balanced mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, and moderate chemical stability. Common in textile wet processing.
  • Silicone Rubber: Supreme non-stick release and high-temperature performance up to 220°C. Standard for hot foil stamping, corona treaters, and plastic bag sealing.
